Online Doctoral Students’ Perception of Autonomy Support to Progress in Dissertation

Abstract
This study focused on online doctoral students and their perceptions of how autonomy supports from online faculty help support their progress and motivation to complete their dissertation. Results show online doctoral students towards the end of the dissertation phase feel a great deal of autonomy which helps promote their motivation to continue and eventually complete the dissertation. Some students thought there was too much autonomy in this phase, particularly at the beginning of the dissertation.
